To encourage young learners to develop curiosity about data literacy and math, we follow a structured approach that integrates real-life events and interests.
Mission Statement
“Data Literacy for Kids” is an educational non-profit aiming to empower young learners to develop curiosity about events in their lives that can be explored with data, fostering a lifelong love for math and data science.
Encouraging Curiosity and Investigative Questions
Encourage students to explore events in their lives that can be analyzed with data. This could be anything from tracking their daily activities to understanding weather patterns.
Help them learn how to pose their own investigative questions on topics that interest and affect them. For example, they might ask, “How does the amount of time spent on homework affect my grades?” or “What are the most popular books in our class library?”
Developing Curiosity About Math
Show students how math can be used to solve real-world problems. Use examples that are relevant to their interests, such as calculating the probability of winning a game or analyzing the statistics of their favorite sports team.
Provide guidance and building blocks to help young students learn math and data science. This can include hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and real-world applications
